The journey of More Christmas began by chance in the rehearsal room. One day, Marcus Emne of Soundwave Society found himself playing a riff reminiscent of Mer Jul, Sweden’s most iconic Christmas song. This seemingly random moment sparked an idea, leading to a phone call with Anders Falk and Tomas Adolphson to explore the possibility of creating an English derivative of their beloved classic.
During that conversation, Adolphson & Falk shared the story of Mer Jul, first broadcast in 1981 on Kjell Alinge’s Eldorado. Produced by LG Nilsson, the track blended analog synths, drum machines, and sound collages. By 1984, it evolved into the iconic version released on red vinyl with new vocals and production by Dag Lundquist. Mer Jul became a beloved anthem, topping charts and reigning as Sweden’s most-played Christmas song for decades.
Fast forward to today: for the first time in history, Adolphson & Falk gave their blessing for an English adaptation. Soundwave Society's version, More Christmas, retains the charm and essence of the original while adding a modern, global touch. To bring this vision to life, the band collaborated with the 500-voice choir Happy Voices, whose incredible harmonies elevate the track to new heights. The song was mastered by Johan Bejerholm, a renowned Swedish audio engineer with over 7 billion Spotify streams to his name, ensuring a soundscape worthy of its legacy.
More Christmas bridges nostalgia and innovation, Swedish traditions and international appeal. It celebrates the universal joy of Christmas while honoring the rich history of Mer Jul, inviting the world to experience a Swedish Christmas classic in a brand-new way.
